2024-25 Premier League: Week 11 – Wolves vs Southampton

Wolves meet Southampton at Molineux in a crucial early encounter in the fight for Premier League survival.

Victory would lift Wolves off the foot of the table into 18th position at Southampton’s expense, whilst Russel Martin’s Saints likewise can move up to 18th with a win before Ipswich play on Sunday.

Team News

Sam Johnstone is looking to return in goal for Wolves after an adductor injury kept him sidelined in recent weeks.

Hwang Hee-Chan (ankle) is unlikely to return until after the international break, having been absent since October’s international break.

Bastien Meupiyou (unspecified), Yerson Mosquera, Boubacar Traore (both knee), Sasa Kalajdzic and Enso Gonzalez (both ACL) remain sidelined.

Southampton could welcome winger, Ryan Fraser back after he missed their win over Everton with a knock.

Adam Lallana (groin) is unlikely to be available but Will Smallbone (thigh), Gavin Bazunu and Ross Stewart (both Achilles) remain ruled out.

Prediction

Still without a league win this season, Wolves need to start finding a way to reduce their defensive sloppiness because they fought back brilliantly to lead Palace, yet defensive marking errors cost them the win.

Southampton however come to Molineux with that duck off their back following a resilient clinical win over Everton, but they must use that performance as a launchpad despite their poor record at Wolves.

Nevertheless both teams have a point to prove here so I do expect a close fight and a point apiece, unless Wolves can target Southampton’s vulnerable defence.
