Sunderland host Coventry City at Stadium of Light in a Championship clash.
Victory will see Sunderland stay top of the table, whilst Coventry could go as high as 12th with a win if results elsewhere swing in their favour.
Team News
Sunderland have no fresh injury issues following their goalless draw at Preston.
Anthony Patterson (knock), Ian Poveda, Salis Abdul Samed (both muscle), Ahmed Abdullahi (groin), Jenson Seelt, Niall Huggins (both knee) and Aji Alese (ankle) remain sidelined.
Coventry could welcome Ellis Simms back into contention if he is fit, having missed their last two matches with a foot injury.
Norman Bassette (neck) could also feature but Jamie Allen, Jake Bidwell (both knee), Ben Wilson (unspecified) and Raphael (thigh) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Sunderland host Coventry at Stadium of Light on Saturday 9 November at 3pm GMT, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Sunderland are winless in their last eight meetings against Coventry (D4, L4).
- Coventry are unbeaten in five of their last seven trips to Sunderland (W2, D3, L2).
- Two of Sunderland’s last three home games against Coventry ended in 1-1 draws.
- Sunderland have kept clean sheets in five of six home matches this season.
- Haji Wright has scored in each of Coventry’s last three matches (W2, D1).
Prediction
With two goalless draws on the road at QPR then Preston in the past week, Sunderland will be glad to be back at home where they should be able to produce a more typical attacking performance unlike recent games.
Coventry on the other hand will be eager to produce a strong performance after their midweek loss to Derby led to Mark Robins’ sacking, but the squad is good enough to be higher up the table so a good result is needed here.
On that note, I can see Coventry going for a more aggressive attack against Sunderland’s low block style, which could well cancel each other out if the Black Cats continue their defensive resilience.
Prediction: Sunderland 1-1 Coventry
