The San Francisco 49ers’ hopes of seeing Trent Williams return to practice ahead of their crucial Week 11 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks were dashed when the All-Pro left tackle remained sidelined.
While Williams’ absence from the final practice session casts doubt on his availability for the NFC West clash, the team’s decision to list him as questionable on the injury report leaves the door open for his participation.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan shed some light on the situation.
“He’s been hurting all week and thought he’d be able to go today. He couldn’t. Hopefully he’ll be better tomorrow and good to go but we’ll have all the way up to kickoff for him,” Shanahan said, via Nick Wagoner of ESPN.

Should Williams be unable to suit up, the 49ers would turn to swing tackle Jaylon Moore to fill the void.
The ankle injury apparently occurred during the hard-fought Week 10 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
What’s peculiar is that Williams played the entire contest, with no immediate concern raised by either the team or media in the aftermath.
The timing of the injury’s emergence raises questions. Perhaps the discomfort took hold gradually in the days following the game.
Another consideration is Williams’ age. At 36, the veteran tackle might be feeling the cumulative effects of his lengthy NFL career.
His last complete season dates back to when he was 25, as he typically misses a game or two each year since then.
This setback could very well force him to watch from the sidelines again.
The silver lining for San Francisco is its opponent’s recent form.
While Seattle isn’t firing on all cylinders, it arrives fresh off its bye week, presenting a legitimate challenge.
Though the 49ers remain the favorites even without Williams, the stakes are considerable.
A loss wouldn’t mathematically end their playoff hopes, but it would complicate their postseason path.
