We’re officially past the midpoint of the NFL season.
That means we have a sample size big enough to discuss the teams that can legitimately contend for the Vince Lombardi trophy.
Of course, a lot can still happen.
We’ve seen some teams finish the season strong or get hot at the right time, and we’ve also seen others crumble under pressure when it matters the most.
With that in mind, ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith shared his updated list of the five best teams in the league right now.

At No. 5, he has the surging Philadelphia Eagles, who have looked like a contender again over the past month or so.
Nick Sirianni no longer seems to be in the spotlight, and Saquon Barkley has been the best running back in football.
Then, he has the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team he projected to finish last in the AFC North.
The Steelers have shocked the world with their performances this season, even winning back-to-back big games after their bye.
At No. 3, he has the back-to-back Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes’ team finally dropped their first game, ending a 15-game winning streak.
At No. 2, he has the same team that ended the Chiefs’ streak: the Buffalo Bills.
Josh Allen is the clear-cut favorite to win MVP, and his team is coming off an emotional statement win.
Then, he has the Detroit Lions.
Dan Campbell’s team is absolutely crushing its opposition with its physical defense and explosive offense, even scoring 52 points on Sunday.
