Earlier in the season, the Carolina Panthers and head coach Dave Canales made a head-scratching move to bench former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young in favor of veteran quarterback Andy Dalton.
Although Dalton had some success as the starter, the move seemed like it would be costly to the young quarterback’s development and ultimately could result in him asking to be traded.
Fortunately for Young, things have changed in Carolina with Canales making him the starter, and he is sticking by the decision, even though the rest of the season is more or less a lost cause at this point.
On Wednesday, Canales talked about what he’s seen from Young and seemed to be happy with the results as of late.
“There’s a weekly growth that’s happening,” Canales said. “Again, we’re just taking it a week at a time. I know that’s been my language, but he’s really taken the responsibility of it and pushing us that way. The bottom line is he’s giving us a chance to win.”

The real question for the Panthers moving forward is whether the team will be able to surround Young with the kind of talent he needs to reach his true potential and live up to the expectations of a top pick in the NFL Draft.
The Panthers brass will have a lot of work to do in the upcoming NFL Draft as well as during the offseason in order to right the ship and get the most out of Young in the years to come.
