In the 1980s and 1990s, John Elway was an outstanding and iconic quarterback for the Denver Broncos who led the franchise to back-to-back Super Bowl championships, and some still have him on their Mount Rushmore of NFL quarterbacks.
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett played in the NFL during Elway’s era, and he has a strong opinion on which of today’s signal-callers remind him most of the Broncos Hall of Famer.
He said on “The Dan Patrick Show” that it’s Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, whom he complimented for being able to gain lots of yardage with his legs and carry his team when needed.
.@JasonGarrett explains why Josh Allen reminds him of John Elway.
“His ability to run the ball, throw it all over the place. For years he was putting Buffalo on his back and now they’re better around him.” pic.twitter.com/ImcRRSlLr0

Allen is in the conversation as possibly the best QB in the NFL right now, and he has become a prime candidate for this season’s MVP award, as he has led the Bills to a 10-2 record and a seven-game winning streak.
His arm strength is almost unmatched, and when he takes off and moves the chains with his legs, he almost resembles a speedy running back.
Elway was also someone who was known for his arm strength, and he was a big part of that golden age of quarterbacks that included Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Troy Aikman and Jim Kelly.
His most iconic moment was likely late in Super Bowl XXXII, when he dove over the pile late to set up a touchdown by Terrell Davis and finally win that Vince Lombardi Trophy that had eluded him.
Allen is hoping to do something similar this season, as the Bills had long suffered from bad fortune in big games, and some believe this is the year they can truly win it all.
