The Detroit Lions haven’t always been this good.
If anything, they’ve been one of the worst teams in the league for the most part.
That’s why Dan Campbell deserves so much credit for this team’s turnaround.
Of course, a lot of that has to do with the great personnel and roster decisions they’ve made.
However, Campbell is responsible for building and developing this winning culture.
Despite recent criticism, Rex Ryan believes Campbell is the smartest coach in the NFL.
On ESPN, the former head coach claimed that he had never seen someone walk into an organization and build a culture as fast and better as Campbell did (via Brad Galli).
ESPN’s Rex Ryan on Dan Campbell: “He might be the smartest coach in the league.”

Not so long ago, fans online were mocking an emotional Campbell for holding back tears after losses.
Now, the Lions might actually be the team to beat in the NFC and the NFL.
Campbell’s uber-aggressive coaching style has raised some eyebrows, and while some love him for that, others believe it will be his demise again in the playoffs.
He’s mostly learned from his past mistakes, but he clearly doesn’t want to compromise or abandon his aggressiveness.
He knows that he also sends a strong message to the players because he trusts them, so they give 100% on every single snap.
Still, the Lions are no longer pretenders.
They’re contenders and will be judged as such.
