If you’re an NFL player, you would absolutely love to play for Dan Campbell.
Despite being retired for years, he continues to have an aggressive mindset that head coaches don’t usually have.
Nonetheless, one needs to know when to be aggressive and when to play it more conservatively.
That’s why Pete Prisco isn’t so sure about Dan Campbell.
Talking to Logan Ryan, the renowned analyst stated that Campbell’s mentality was the only thing that could hold this Detroit Lions team back (via CBS Sports).
“I love this team, but I have one concern… Dan Campbell.”

He questioned Campbell’s decision to go for it vs. the Green Bay Packers multiple times, as there was no clear endgame or benefit from those decisions other than just going for it.
He remembered how Campbell’s overly aggressive decision-making cost his team a win in the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers last season, and he fears he might make the same mistake again.
Granted, the risk-reward of doing that vs. the Packers wasn’t as big as it would be in the postseason, so it’s easy to understand why people were pleased and praised him for taking that approach in those games.
There are no redos in the playoffs, though.
Prisco believes this Lions team is talented enough to win without having to be that aggressive, and he might be on point.
As much as Campbell deserves credit for building a winning culture in Detroit, he also has a plethora of talent on both sides of the ball.
Campbell needs to learn how to pick his spots and ensure that his most unique trait doesn’t become his downfall.
