NBA insider Shams Charania really got under the skin of Jimmy Butler’s agent on Wednesday.
After Charania reported that the Phoenix Suns are another destination that Butler could move to this season, Bernie Lee hopped on X to refute that claim.
Lee, Butler’s agent, called Charania’s story “fabricated” and repeatedly attacked the NBA reporter.
On Thursday morning, Charania spoke with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN, via NBACentral, and pushed back against Lee’s attacks.
Charania said:
“I 1000% stand by my reporting. It’s fully vetted. And as a professional, that’s what I do, that’s what I get paid to do… report truthfully and accurately. That’s what this is. Period.”

Lee said that he gave Charania a “pass” earlier in the week when the reporting about Butler first broke, but he couldn’t hold back anymore.
It’s not clear why Lee was so upset about this reporting because he is used to his client being in the spotlight and at the center of speculation and rumors.
No matter what, Charania is standing by his story.
That means the Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and Golden State Warriors are all teams to keep an eye on as the trade deadline draws near and Butler’s time with the Miami Heat could be coming to an end.
Since getting his new job with ESPN, Charania has broken several big stories and is sure to break many more in the weeks, months, and years ahead.
This won’t be the last time he ruffles some feathers, but it doesn’t seem to bother Charania at all and he is confident in his sources and reporting.
