Bill Belichick shocked the football world when it was announced that he would become the next head coach at the University of North Carolina.
This came out of nowhere for many fans and analysts, as they assumed he would want to make a return to the NFL after a year without coaching.
However, Belichick has publically stated that UNC is where he wants to be, ready to make a massive impact on their culture moving forward.
Some analysts aren’t convinced that Belichick is genuine and is using this new gig to leverage a path back to the NFL.
However, in a recent appearance on the Dan Le Batard Show, Michael Lombardi noted that Belichick does not want to return to the NFL.
“No… He wants to build a culture, and in pro football today, it becomes increasingly harder to establish a full throttle culture because you got so many outside entities coming in,” Lombardi said.
Does Bill Belichick have any desire to return to the NFL?

As Lombardi pointed out, Belichick’s career with the New England Patriots was about building a specific culture, something many people call “The Patriot Way.”
This culture, of course, helped the Patriots establish one of the most impressive dynasties in league history, and he’d like to do that again with another team.
Lombardi isn’t convinced he’d be able to easily do that with a new NFL team, so the collegiate route might be his best bet.
All eyes will be on Belichick during his first year back in the collegiate scene, wondering how the veteran coach will perform at a lower level.
