The Buffalo Bills enter Week 18 of the 2024 NFL season with nothing left to play for as they’ve already locked up the No. 2 seed in the AFC.
The Bills face the New England Patriots in their regular-season finale, and though the starters are expected to play, head coach Sean McDermott will likely give them only one quarter or so before pulling them.
Buffalo did an impressive job of winning games despite some personnel changes on offense, an encouraging sign that the team might finally overcome its recent postseason woes.
Quarterback Josh Allen is considered the front-runner to win NFL MVP after leading one of the league’s most efficient offenses despite not having a standout pass-catcher.
The Bills did give Allen a reliable target in Amari Cooper, who has shown flashes of being a true No. 1 in the passing game, though the two have yet to deliver a breakout performance together.
Cooper should be considered a major piece of the offense, though he won’t be suiting up in Week 18.
“Bills WR Amari Cooper has been downgraded to out. He will not travel and has been excused for a personal family matter,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter wrote on X.

This might cause some concern given the point of the season, but it’s more likely that the Bills are letting Cooper tend to whatever he needs to because of their current playoff situation.
Hopefully, it’s nothing serious and Cooper comes back in time for the postseason.
