After getting destroyed in Week 18 by the Detroit Lions with the NFC North title on the line, the Minnesota Vikings will have to begin the playoffs this weekend rather than get a bye into the divisional round.
They will face the Los Angeles Rams on Monday in Arizona after the game was moved from SoFi Stadium due to numerous wildfires that have been burning throughout Southern California.
Quarterback Sam Darnold has been dealing with a quad ailment, but on Friday, he was a full participant in the Vikings’ practice session.

Darnold had a terrible performance versus Detroit this past Sunday when he went 18 of 41 and didn’t throw a single touchdown pass, but all in all, he had a tremendous season and has been one of the NFL’s feel-good stories.
After being dismissed by most as a bust, he took the Vikings’ starting job and delivered 4,319 passing yards and 35 passing touchdowns, which earned him his first Pro Bowl nod.
He will need to be at his best against the Rams, who seem to be a dark horse team and have an interesting combination of grizzled vets and young studs who are coming into their own.
Led by head coach Kevin O’Connell, who is a candidate for the Coach of the Year award, Minnesota became a very strong team on both sides of the football, and they will be a tough out at any stage of the playoffs.
Darnold will become a free agent at the end of this season, and if his play this season is duplicatable, he will be highly sought after on the market.
