Even though the New England Patriots axed head coach Jerod Mayo about an hour after they won their regular season finale and blew the No. 1 overall pick, Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf’s job is still intact as ownership already endorsed him and said he’d be returning.
The question now is what role he’ll be returning to.
A new report suggests there could be a minor shake-up in the front office even though Wolf is staying.
“There’s a sense that I’ve gotten that he might be open to keeping the title, but essentially being demoted. Because at his heart, he’s a scout. That’s who he is…The man loves to evaluate football players…Is it something I would guarantee? No,” Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan said about Wolf’s future.

After announcing that Mike Vrabel was being hired as the new head coach, it was reported that Ryan Cowden would join the front office with him.
Cowden spent the last two seasons with the New York Giants serving as the executive advisor to general manager Joe Schoen.
He previously served as the director and vice president of player personnel for the Tennessee Titans during Vrabel’s time there as head coach.
Cowden’s addition to the front office is a reason why Wolf could see his role adjusted to accommodate him.
The Patriots head into this offseason armed with the most cap space in the NFL, a rookie franchise quarterback, and the No. 4 pick in the upcoming draft, so it should be a fun and busy offseason in New England.
