Heading into the 2024 NFL regular season, there was a lot of buzz about the new-look Chicago Bears, with the team finally being able to draft a player who could be a franchise quarterback and a superstar on the NFL level.
The Bears drafted USC product Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick and had high hopes that the former Trojans star would be exactly what this team needed to right the ship, along with fellow rookie Rome Odunze, who could become his go-to guy downfield at the wide receiver position.
Despite a promising stretch earlier in the season, namely, before the team lost to the Washington Commanders due to a hail-mary touchdown pass by Jayden Daniels, the Bears have headed into a downward spiral with Williams looking like he’s regressing rather than getting better from week to week.
In the Week 10 loss to the New England Patriots, Williams was sacked nine times, and the offense couldn’t put up more than three points against one of the worst teams in the league this season.
Freddie Coleman of ESPN believes Williams is dealing with a confidence problem, which could prove costly for the Bears moving forward via Freddie and Harry.
“Caleb Williams’ confidence is completely shot,” Coleman said.

The Bears don’t have the best reputation for developing quarterbacks, as players come and go at the position all the time in Chicago, which didn’t bode well for the team ever becoming a force to be reckoned with in this era of football dominated by the passing game.
Williams was thought to be the reason for optimism in Chicago, but if the team doesn’t figure out how to unlock him, it could be more of the same for the Bears in the years to come.
