Baseball splits with Ohio Northern in road doubleheader

The Muskingum baseball team split at Ohio Northern on Sunday afternoon. The Muskies dropped game one 7-0, but found their stride and bounced back with a win in game two 8-2.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (14-9 overall, 5-1 OAC), Ohio Northern (9-13 overall, 1-5 OAC)
  • Location: Wander Field – Ada, Ohio

Game 1

  • The Muskies were led by senior Wyatt Reeder who tallied two hits in two at bats.
  • Freshman Conner Thamann added in one hit.
  • Junior Tobie Teke and senior Gavin Hawk both had a walk.
  • Senior Erik Cover started on the mound and went five innings for the Muskies.
  • Senior Jaxon Rinkes added three innings of work for the Muskies in relief. Rinkes allowed only one hit while striking out three batters.
  • Sam Sells led the Polar Bears with three hits and one RBI.

Game 2

  • The Muskies put together eight runs on 13 hits. 
  • Senior Quinten Collins had a two hit, two RBI, and two scored runs performance to lead the Muskies. Collins recorded the only home run in game two.
  • Teke added two more hits to his day while adding in one RBI.
  • Thamann put two hits up with two RBI’s.
  • Sophomore Mike Davis logged two hits, one RBI, and one run scored.
  • Sophomore Louie Hess had two hits, one RBI, and one run scored.
  • Freshman Grant Mellerson added in one hit, one RBI, and two scored runs.
  • Junior Weston Melick notched two hits.
  • Teke and Hess both had doubles in the game.
  • Freshman Shoei Yamashita earned the win on the mound for the Muskies after a six inning performance that only allowed two runs, while striking out three batters.
  • Freshman Luke Spencer and Gavin Schultz came in for relief to close out the game.
  • Joey Kennedy had three hits for the Polar Bears.

  • The Muskies will be back in action on Wednesday, April 10, when they host the Capital Comets. The doubleheader in set to start at 1:00 p.m.
