The Kansas City Chiefs are the team to beat in the National Football League.
As such, it makes sense that everybody in the league wanted to see them lose a game once and for all.
Notably, the Buffalo Bills seemed to have the best chance to hand them their first loss of the season.
However, the viewership for that new rivalry game exceeded all expectations, even the most optimistic.
According to The Bills Guys on X, the game drew a massive 31.2 million viewers on CBS.
This #Bills #Chiefs regular season matchup drew a larger audience than the Olympic Opening Ceremonies (28mil), the College Football National Championship Game (22mil), the Academy Awards (18mil), and TRIPLED the average of the NBA Finals series. pic.twitter.com/31YNwDYEZS

That makes it the best regular-season game (outside of Thanksgiving or Christmas Day) in network history, trailing only the Week 9 matchup between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts in 2007, which drew 33.8 million viewers.
The Josh Allen-Patrick Mahomes rivalry is now reaching Tom Brady-Peyton Manning levels.
To put it in context, this regular-season game drew a larger audience than the Olympic Opening Ceremonies (28 million), the College Football National Championship Game (22 million), and the Academy Awards (18 million).
It also tripled the average of the NBA Finals series.
The Chiefs and Bills don’t happen to have the largest fan bases in the league, so this was yet another case of every single football fan in the nation eagerly wanting to get a glimpse of this game.
The Chiefs and Bills have starred in some epic matchups, with Allen multiple times getting the best of Mahomes in the regular season.
However, whether he’ll finally be able to beat him in the playoffs remains to be seen.
