Thursday night might have been the end of a nightmare season for the San Francisco 49ers.
The team lost 12-6 to the Los Angeles Rams in a disgusting game, falling to 6-8.
It was an awful game no matter how you look at it, and what made it even worse was one of San Francisco’s key defensive players quit on the team in the third quarter, which did not sit well at all with star tight end George Kittle.
Kittle spoke after the game about linebacker De’Vondre Campbell, who refused to enter the game when his number was called in the third quarter and walked off the field early in the fourth quarter.
The tight end said, “I’ve never been around anybody that’s ever done that, and I hope I’m never around anyone that does that again.”

It’s just about the ultimate sin for a football player, and there’s not really any way back from this for Campbell, at least in San Francisco.
Campbell had been filling in all year as the team’s starter while Dre Greenlaw recovered from the torn Achilles he suffered in the Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in February.
Greenlaw returned on Thursday and debuted, taking over Campbell’s starting role.
When Greenlaw and fellow linebacker Dee Winters had to exit in the third quarter due to nagging injuries, Campbell refused to go into the game when head coach Kyle Shanahan called upon him.
Kittle wasn’t alone in criticizing Campbell, and it seems like it’s only a matter of time before he gets cut at this point.
A nightmare season only worsened on Thursday, and we’ll see what’s next in this saga.
