Last season was a big disappointment for the Milwaukee Bucks after they acquired Damian Lillard in a blockbuster trade, and when they started this season 2-8, people predicted doom and gloom for them.
But more recently, they have been on a roll. They went on a seven-game winning streak and have won nine of their past 11, and they’re headed to Las Vegas to take part in the semifinal round of the NBA Cup.
However, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas isn’t convinced the Bucks have turned the corner.
“Did you watch the game? There’s no way you just watched the game and were like, ‘Oh my God. This is a great team. They are playing very well now,’” Arenas said on his podcast.

On paper, Milwaukee has a very solid roster. Giannis Antetokounmpo is a perennial MVP candidate and is leading the NBA in scoring, Lillard is starting to put up his usual numbers after a dismal first season with the team, and they have a number of capable supporting players.
But critics say the team lacks speed and athleticism and is a bit too old to compete for the NBA championship.
The Bucks won it all in 2021, but few players other than Antetokounmpo remain from that squad, and the Eastern Conference has seemingly gotten stronger since.
Another problem has been the frequent injuries forward Khris Middleton has suffered ever since that championship season, and given how important he has been to the Bucks, those injuries have held them back.
The semifinal round will be an opportunity for the Bucks to prove they’re truly figuring things out, as they will take on the high-flying Atlanta Hawks, and if they win will play either the Oklahoma City Thunder or Houston Rockets, both of which are excellent defensive teams, in the final.
