The NFL coaching carousel is about to spin into high gear, with Mike Vrabel emerging as one of the hottest names on the market.
After wrapping up his stint as a Cleveland Browns consultant, the former Tennessee Titans head coach is now free to pursue new opportunities in the league.
The New England Patriots’ situation has sparked particular interest, with their former Super Bowl-winning linebacker a potential replacement should the team move on from Jerod Mayo.
While Vrabel’s name naturally surfaced in these discussions, one insider expressed doubts about the Patriots’ willingness to make the financial commitment needed to land him.
“Mike Vrabel is probably going to command at least $15 million a year. And it might be $20 [million], because he’s going to have three or four teams that want to hire him, including the [New York] Jets, who have shown they’ll pay money,” Mike Giardi of Boston Sports Journal said, via WEEI Afternoons.

The financial implications run deep for New England as firing the current coaching staff could cost around $20 million, and building a new staff under Vrabel could push the total investment to somewhere from $70-90 million.
Meanwhile, the Jets aren’t waiting around. They’ve already interviewed Vrabel, making him their second head coaching candidate to meet with the organization, along with Ron Rivera.
Vrabel’s stock appears to be rising across the league, with recent buzz suggesting he could be the leading candidate for the Las Vegas Raiders job if the team decides to dismiss Antonio Pierce.
As the league prepares for a busy offseason of coaching changes, Vrabel’s combination of experience and leadership makes him an attractive option for multiple franchises.
