Despite being the preseason betting favorites to win the Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers weren’t able to make the playoffs this year.
It was an up-and-down season for the Bay Area team, who couldn’t get momentum and traction throughout the season, mainly due to several injuries to key players.
Brock Purdy didn’t have his consistent, regular pass-catchers on the field for most of the season, which didn’t help the offense’s cause.
Deebo Samuel was one of Purdy’s top targets in 2023, but given some lingering injuries and that he missed a few games, he wasn’t able to help as well as he normally does.
Samuel’s continued history with injuries had fans wondering if the 49ers will keep him around in 2025, or if they’ll elect to move on for someone younger, a player without as high of injury risk.
However, John Lynch, the 49ers’ GM, recently came out to support Samuel moving forward, as 95.7 “The Game” reported on X.
“He’s a good player and has done a ton for this organization, and we’re not in the business of letting good players go,” Lynch said.

Lynch appears confident that the team will retain Samuel for at least one more year.
With any luck, Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle will all be back in full force for the 49ers in 2025, bringing their offense back to a consistent juggernaut that NFC opponents are afraid to face.
If not, it could be another tough season, and the 49ers might be having a very different conversation in a year.
