All human beings are mere mortals, and that is especially true in sports, where wear and tear is a real thing and Father Time is undefeated.
After winning a Super Bowl championship years ago and getting named to the Pro Bowl eight times, star quarterback Russell Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2022, and despite being tabbed as new championship contenders, he and the team struggled.
The Broncos pulled the plug on the Wilson experiment this offseason, paving the way for him to move to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Many had dismissed him as over the hill, but he has guided the Steelers to a 10-3 record, which has them in first place in the AFC North.
ESPN’s Mike Greenberg said on “Get Up” that he was wrong about Wilson and issued an apology about thinking the 36-year-old was done.
“I spent this whole offseason basically saying, ‘Russell Wilson’s career is over.’ … I was dead wrong,” said Greenberg.

Wilson was abysmally bad during the 2022 season, and although some of his numbers rebounded last year, he still wasn’t playing objectively well.
But in seven games this year, he has thrown for 1,784 yards, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 64.8 percent of his pass attempts.
The Steelers also traded for Justin Fields prior to this season, which created a quarterback controversy, especially when Wilson missed the early part of the season with a calf strain after head coach Mike Tomlin made him the starter.
They did well with Fields under center, and many second-guessed Tomlin’s decision to go with Wilson instead once Wilson was healthy.
But it has turned out to be the right decision, as Pittsburgh is 6-1 with Wilson as their QB1.
