The Pittsburgh Steelers have always been a solid playoff team under head coach Mike Tomlin, and he’s working his magic again during the 2024 NFL season.
The team sits alone atop the AFC North standings.
Despite coming into the season with a major quarterback question mark, the Steelers appeared to know what they were doing when they signed Russell Wilson and traded for Justin Fields.
Fields was able to keep the team afloat to begin the year, but Wilson transformed the offense and gave it more verticality since taking over the offense.
At 9-3, Pittsburgh is all but guaranteed a postseason spot and is primed to win the division, given the Baltimore Ravens’ recent struggles.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills are widely considered the class of the AFC, but the Steelers shouldn’t be slept on as they’ve managed to hang with every team they’ve faced so far.
Analysts like Tony Romo have been impressed with Pittsburgh and even named them one of his favorite Super Bowl contenders (via NFL on CBS).
“They’re one of my favorites to win the Super Bowl at this point in the season,” Romo said.

Romo highlighted the play-action plays under Wilson, who’s having a career year with yards per pass attempt.
This is an encouraging sign for a team that has someone like George Pickens who can come down with those downfield passes.
Wilson’s rejuvenation has been an exciting development for the Steelers, who look more and more like a legitimate threat to come out of the AFC.
